The city of San Luis PotosĂ­ is one of the Mexican destinations with the greatest wealth of baroque architecture. A simple stroll through its elegant historical center showcases the old manors carved out of pink quarry that lined the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro (Royal Inland Road). This so-called cultural itinerary was used to transport silver from ZacatecasGuanajuato, and San Luis PotosĂ­, as well as to import mercury from Europe. In 2010, it was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. 

Out the innumerable places you can visit in San Luis PotosĂ­, museums stand out; the Leonora Carrington is notable among these. The museum's collection features the English artist's sculptures, jewels, and unpublished sketches. The building that houses the Leonora Carrington Museum shares its space with the National Center for the Arts.

 

The Federico Silva Museum is another mandatory place to visit, as he was the artist who designed the most imposing works of art at the Centro Cultural de Ciudad Universitaria (University Cultural Center). His work is, without a doubt, is worth a visit.

 

Another way to get to know the city is through mezcal. San Luis PotosĂ­ was one of the first states to receive DenominaciĂłn de Origen (Origin Denomination) and there are established mezcal routes that take you to a number of haciendas that still use traditional manufacturing processes.
